The municipality of Felgueiras is located in the district of Porto, in the former region of Douro Litoral, in the Sousa Valley. It is also the capital city of the municipality and is part of the Vinho Verde Sousa DOC sub-region.

Felgueiras is the leading producer of Vinho Verde in Portugal, with 11,797,977 liters produced in the 2020-2021 harvest. (CIPVV, 2021), which corresponds to 14.41% of the total Vinho Verde produced in the country. This fact allows us to say that Felgueiras is the Land of Vinho Verde..




With an area of ​​approximately 116 km², the municipality currently has a population of 55,855 inhabitants (INE, 2021). In 2011, the resident population of the municipality of Felgueiras was 58,065 inhabitants (INE 2011), representing a decrease of almost 4% in its demographics.

Location

From the city of Guimarães (Baixo Minho) to Felgueiras, in a straight line, it is only 12 km. The city of Felgueiras is located southeast of the Cradle City of Portugal.
The municipality, which comprises twenty parishes, is bordered, to the north, by Fafe, to the northeast with Celorico de Basto, to the southeast with Amarante, to the southwest with Lousada and to the northwest with Vizela and Guimarães.
