Parque Florestal de Monsanto
The
Freguesia do Benfica, located in the extreme west of the City of Lisbon, is the western border of the
municipality of Lisbon. From the Sé de Lisboa to the parish headquarters are 11 km away by car. The former Parish of Santa Maria de
Belém is one of the most visited places by tourists passing through the city of Lisbon. To the neighboring town
from Amadora, it is only 3 km.

Declining resident population
With 8.03 km², the
Parish of Benfica has a population of 35,367 inhabitants
(INE, 2021). In 2011, the parish had 36,985 inhabitants (idem), with a drop in population
resident during this period.

Monsanto Forest Park
The
Parque Florestal de Monsanto, a real green lung in the center of Lisbon, has 1000 hectares of
protected vegetation. Located in the
Serra de Monsanto, the park's area corresponds to about 10% of the
area of the municipality of Lisbon. It is the largest Portuguese forest park. Adapted for walking and sports such as cycling,
trails for all-terrain bicycles (BTT). Find out more:

Location
The
Parish of Benfica is limited to the north by
Parish of Carnide
and with the municipality of
Amadora,
with this same municipality also to the west;
to the east, with
São Domingos de Benfica and
Parish of Campolide,
to the southwest with the parish of
Belém.
To the south, with the
Freguesia da Ajuda,
to the southeast with
Alcântara.
