Located in the Atlantic Ocean, between Europe and North America, the Azores Archipelago, Autonomous Region of Portugal, has 2,333 km² and is formed by nine islands: Santa Maria, São Miguel, Terceira, Graciosa, São Jorge, Pico, Faial , Flores and Corvo.



São Miguel Island São Miguel, with 747 km², is the largest of these islands. Corvo Island, with its 17 km², is the smallest. It is on Pico Island that the culmination point - Pico - of Portugal is located, with 2,351 meters of altitude.

Angra do Heroísmo In 2001 (INE), the population was over 240,000 inhabitants. Angra do Heroísmo, a UNESCO World Heritage city, on Terceira Island, is the capital of the Archipelago.
