Place of importance for the history of Lisbon and Portugal, since the Parish was created in the Middle Ages, in 1266, a place inhabited by aristocrats.

"In 1312, D. Dinis divided up the assets of the Count of Barcelos, leaving D. Afonso Sanches, his bastard son and son-in-law of the Count, a farm and house in Campo no Lumiar, which came to be called Paços do Infante D. Afonso Sanches. In the reign of D. Afonso IV, this noble residence was named Paço do Lumiar, which it still stands today and constitutes an important historical nucleus of the parish" [Freguesia do Lumiar].

"At the beginning of the 18th century, Lumiar was defined as "a place of noble farms, olive groves and vineyards", with the main fruits of the earth wine, wheat, barley and olive oil" [Parish of Lumiar].

More recently, the Freguesia do Lumiar was created in 2012, with the merger of the parishes Lumiar, Paço do Lumiar and Telheiras and a new space with modern features, the Alta de Lisboa.
In the most recent reformulation, Lumiar takes territory from Carnide and cedes territory to Olivais
