Silver Coast

Caldas da Rainha is a city and municipality located 92 km north of Lisbon. Caldas da Rainha, in the Centro Region (Beiras), is part of the district of Leiria.

Its territory, included in the Silver Coast, is also part of the province of Extremadura.

The municipality of Caldas da Rainha, 256 km², has a population of 50,917 inhabitants (INE 2021). In 2011 it had 51,729 inhabitants, thus having had a drop of 1.6% in the resident population.


Location

The municipality of Caldas da Rainha is limited to the northeast with Alcobaça, to the east with Rio Maior, south with Cadaval, west with Bombarral and Obidos and northwest by the Atlantic Ocean.

City and spa

The city was founded and developed thanks to its hydro-thermal resources. Always associated with the name of Queen Da. Leonor, the wife of King D. João II of Portugal.
