The County (State) of Viseu, in central Portugal whose head office is located 291 km to the south of the city of Lisbon is one of the 18 counties (distritos) of Portugal.

Viseu is a city, a municipality (municipality) and a district in the former province of Beira Alta, in the Center Region of Portugal. According to several surveys carried out in Portugal and throughout the Europe, Viseu is considered one of the best cities in terms of quality of life. Viseu is also known to be the Land of Viriato, the first Portuguese, it is believed.


Thanks to its renowned gastronomic tradition, the city of Viseu has already been elected European Capital of Gastronomy. In the district of Viseu, not by chance, there are 3 of the largest wine producers in the Douro Vinhateiro: Lamego, São João da Pesqueira and Tabuaco.

The renowned Porto Wine, before being famous throughout the world under the label Porto Wine, was known as Vinho de Cheiro de Lamego, in the 17th century. The municipality (municipality) of São João da Pesqueira is the main producer of red wines in the district of Viseu.

The municipality (municipality) of Viseu is limited to the north by the municipality of Castro Daire, to the northeast by Vila Nova de Paiva, to the east by Sátão and Penalva do Castelo, to the southeast by Mangualde and Nelas, to the south by Carregal do Sal, to the southwest by Tondela, to the west by Vouzela and to the northwest by São Pedro do Sul.
